About the Workshop:

In recent years, the food sector has faced some serious challenges. However, this has also encouraged new opportunities for innovation and growth within the industry. No matter what your interests are – be it recipe development, food styling, product development, design, bookkeeping, research, writing (or any combination thereof!) – this caterToronto workshop series offers a supportive environment for you to discover the wide-ranging potential for self-employment, economic security, and a brighter future while working with food.

This caterToronto workshop series will provide invaluable insights into career avenues such as marketing, research and development, and entrepreneurship, empowering you to forge a satisfying and sustainable career in the diverse world of food. Specifically designed to support women and queer-identified community members in the Weston area, these workshops will equip you with the knowledge, skills, and connections you need to succeed in this ever-evolving industry.

Beyond your typical "career talks" and job fairs, we offer a unique opportunity to build meaningful connections and take control of your future. Whether you attend a single workshop or the entire set of four, you'll gain practical skills and knowledge that will help you secure employment, entrepreneurship, or enterprising opportunities within the caterToronto network of industry professionals. And, if you complete all four workshops, you'll earn a valuable certificate that can help you stand out from the crowd in any application process.

Join us and explore the exciting world of food and your role(s) in it!

Workshop Schedule:

  • Workshop Schedule: Session 1 Monday July 10: What and Who Makes Up Our Food Industry Ecosystem in Toronto?
  • Session 2 Monday July 17: How to Shockproof Your Food Career - Developing Multiple Income Streams with Complimentary Roles and Supportive Connections
  • Session 3 Monday July 24: Alternative Ways to Run a Food Business - Shared Spaces, Tech Apps, Rentals and Collaborations
  • Session 4 Monday July 31: Social Entrepreneurship in the Food Industry - How We Tell Our Stories, Building and Supporting Community with Social Enterprise

You don't need to be an experienced cook or server to benefit from these workshops. If you're already sharing your skills and have perhaps even made some money, but you're not sure what's next, this workshop series is perfect for you! Take the leap and gain the confidence, knowledge and support you need to take your business to the next level, all while being part of a welcoming and inclusive community.

Pre-registration is required since we’re aiming to keep the class relatively small. Although you don’t need to be from the Weston area, it’s an opportunity to learn and connect with more of your peers and potential partners. Come with your friends in the food industry too!”
